The Brazilian government has filed a lawsuit against the Discord platform, seeking damages of 500 million Brazilian reais (approximately 83.11 million euros) for the lack of protection for children in the online environment. This action comes after a tragic incident in July, when a 13-year-old girl committed suicide after a live session on Discord.
In the complaint filed, the government accuses Discord of gaps in age verification systems and non-compliance with minor protection regulations. The Attorney General's Office is calling for immediate measures, including strengthening parental controls and cooperating with local authorities. Discord has contested the allegations, considering the government's measure to be disproportionate.
At the same time, TikTok has been fined 153 million reais (25.49 million euros) for irregularities in managing children's personal data, highlighting the growing concerns regarding the online safety of minors in Brazil.
