Bill Rasmussen, one of the founders of ESPN, has died at the age of 93, according to an announcement made by the American television network.
Rasmussen was a pioneer in satellite television, playing a crucial role in the launch of the ESPN channel. In 1978, he acquired a satellite transponder and designed a sports-dedicated channel, based in Bristol, Connecticut. ESPN was officially founded in September 1979, initially having only 80 employees and broadcasting local sports competitions.
Over the years, the channel grew and became one of the most important and influential sports channels in the United States, changing the way sports are broadcast and consumed. His death represents a significant loss for the sports industry and for all those who benefited from his innovative vision.
