Silviu Stănescu, former footballer and assistant coach of Universitatea Craiova, died on Tuesday, a few weeks before turning 82. The announcement was made by the clubs Cetatea Suceava and Universitatea Craiova, which highlighted his significant contribution to the development of Romanian football.
Born on August 24, 1944, in Drăgășani, Stănescu played for teams such as Electroputere Craiova, Universitatea Craiova, and Petrolul Ploiești, having a remarkable coaching career. Settled in Suceava, he was active in training young footballers at the youth center of Cetatea Suceava. Universitatea Craiova expressed condolences to the family and recalled his impact on the club, including his role in the transfer of the legendary Ion Oblemenco.
Aurel Țicleanu and other former colleagues reminisced about his contribution to the team's history. Stănescu remains a respected figure in Romanian football, and his death leaves a void in the sports community. May God rest him in peace!
