Russia accuses Ukraine of hitting a high school in the occupied Lugansk region, reporting that at least six people have died, and nearly 40 others have been injured. In turn, the Ukrainian Army dismissed the accusations, labeling them as manipulation.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin described the attack as a "terrorist act" and requested the Ministry of Defense to prepare options for retaliation, emphasizing that the strike was not accidental. At the time of the attack, the Luhansk Pedagogical University dormitory was reportedly housing 86 students, according to the Russians. Pro-Russian authorities stated that the building collapsed following a "massive drone attack," and footage broadcast shows rescue teams searching for survivors among the rubble. Initially, the casualty count was one dead and 35 injured, but it was updated throughout the day.
On the other hand, Kiev rejects the accusations and claims that the real target of the operation was an elite unit of the Russian army, specialized in drones and military coordination, which was allegedly operating in the building indicated by Russia as a high school or dormitory. Ukrainian authorities say that the attack complied with international law and that the target was a legitimate military objective.
