Andrea Egan was recently elected as the new leader of Unison, the largest trade union in the UK, in a new blow to Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer. Egan, who was expelled from the Labour Party three years ago, won against the current general secretary of the union, Christina McAnea, an ally of the Prime Minister.
Upon her election, Egan promised to "confront any employer, politician, or cabinet minister who acts against our interests." During her campaign, she committed to not giving "blank checks" to the Labour Party and to demanding that it take responsibility for its actions.
