Amazon, the largest online store in the world, will lay off up to 30,000 employees starting Tuesday, in an effort to reduce costs and offset excessive hiring during the peak period of the pandemic. This figure represents a small percentage of the total 1.55 million employees, but nearly 10% of the 350,000 corporate employees. The reduction is the largest since the elimination of 27,000 positions at the end of 2022. The cuts will affect various divisions, including human resources, and managers of the affected teams have been trained to communicate with staff. CEO Andy Jassy is initiating measures to reduce bureaucracy and improve efficiency, including through the use of artificial intelligence. Amazon's shares rose by 1.2% ahead of the reporting of third-quarter earnings.
