Explosion of a car in Saint Petersburg: A Russian army officer has died, and his wife has been injured.

Russian authorities announced that an explosion occurred on Thursday in St. Petersburg, killing an army officer identified as a lieutenant colonel in the air defense forces.

The incident took place in the Pushkin district while the couple was heading home. The officer's wife was injured and has been hospitalized. The local investigation committee has opened a criminal procedure to investigate the explosion.

Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, several Russian military officials have been targeted in similar attacks, some of which have been claimed by Kiev. So far, Ukraine has not commented on this incident.
