Diella, a minister generated by artificial intelligence, was appointed in September to transform the public procurement system in Albania into a completely transparent and corruption-free one. Prime Minister Edi Rama recently announced that Diella will have '83 children', meaning virtual assistants, one for each member of the Socialist Party in parliament. These assistants will record activities in parliament and inform legislators about discussions they miss.
Diella, which was initially launched as a virtual assistant in January, is responsible for managing public tenders, ensuring that they are free of corruption. Albania thus becomes the first country in the world to officially appoint a non-human minister, and the system is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026.
