According to data from the French Ministry of the Interior, in 2024, 107 women were killed by current or former partners, marking an 11% increase compared to the previous year. In total, 138 violent deaths in couples were reported, including 31 men. The annual study highlights that a violent death occurs, on average, every three days. Additionally, 403 attempted murders in couples were recorded. Most femicides occurred at the victim's or the aggressor's home, and 90% of these were committed with knives or firearms.
The typical profile of the aggressor is a man, of French nationality, often unemployed, aged between 20 and 49 years. Almost half of the victims had previously reported the violence to the authorities, and 81% of them had filed complaints. The study emphasizes the need for more effective measures to protect victims.
