A young mother of three children, aged 25, was killed by her husband in the commune of Beciu, Teleorman County, right on her birthday. The incident took place on Saturday evening, in front of the church, in the presence of her three-year-old son. The victim, Mihaela, was stabbed 15 times by her husband, from whom she had been separated for several months. The man, aged 42, was later found with injuries to his hands and neck, suggesting a suicide attempt. The police were alerted by a man who called 112, and the medical team declared the victim dead at the scene. This tragedy occurs in an alarming context, in which, in the first seven months of the year, 46 cases of femicide were recorded in Romania. Recently, 273 parliamentarians supported a bill that introduces the term "femicide" into Romanian legislation, highlighting an increased concern for gender-based violence. The victim, who had requested a protection order against her husband, was constantly threatened, and their children lived alternately between parents. This tragic situation underscores the need for more effective measures to protect women against domestic violence.
