The latest UNODC and UN Women report shows that in 2024, a woman or girl was killed by a partner or family member every 10 minutes, totaling approximately 83,000 victims. In 60% of cases, the perpetrator was a family member or partner, compared to 11% in the case of men. The African region recorded the highest number of femicides, with 22,600 cases, followed by Asia (17,400) and America (7,700). The femicide rate is alarming, with Africa having 3 victims per 100,000 women, while Europe has the lowest rate, at 0.5. Data from 2023 shows that 51,100 women were killed by relatives or partners, highlighting the need for more effective protection policies. On November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, awareness of these issues and the promotion of women's rights are marked.
