Police responded to more than 103,000 reports of domestic violence in the first eight months of 2026

Police responded to 103,477 reports of domestic violence in the first eight months of 2026, according to data from the Romanian General Inspectorate of Police. During the same period, 40,950 offenses were recorded in this context, with more than half classified as “assault or other violence.”

Most reports were made in rural areas, specifically 53,125, while 50,352 were recorded in urban areas. Assault or other violence offenses accounted for 57% of the total, with 23,426 acts.

To protect victims, police issued 13,751 provisional protection orders. Of these, 4,943 were converted by the courts into protection orders. Judges issued a total of 11,594 protection orders. Violations of measures imposed under provisional orders led to reports of 1,192 offenses, while violations of court-issued orders were associated with 4,678 offenses.

In 5,334 cases, aggressors were required to wear electronic monitoring devices continuously. Of these, 2,997 measures were imposed under provisional orders, while 2,337 were imposed under court-issued orders.
