The United States Air Force has announced the opening of an investigation into Major Jason Watson, an active-duty officer, after he called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance during a protest on the steps of the Capitol.
Watson criticized the actions of the two, including the U.S. involvement in the conflict with Iran without Congressional approval, according to a video recording. During the protest, Watson was detained by police while holding a sign calling for their impeachment. The Air Force Secretary's office confirmed the officer's participation in the protest and emphasized that the investigation will continue without obstacles, treating the allegations of misconduct seriously.
Military legislation imposes restrictions on military personnel's involvement in political activities, and Article 88 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice prohibits officers from using contemptuous words against political leaders.
