Varvara Volkova, a flight attendant employed by Ural Airlines, was sentenced to seven years in prison by a court in Vidnoie, Russia, for criticizing the Russian army. She was accused of spreading false information under Article 207.3 of the Russian Penal Code, which penalizes public criticism of the armed forces. Volkova was found guilty of publishing messages accusing the Russian army of violence against Ukrainian civilians and stated that she would "invite the Ukrainian army for tea" if they reached Moscow. Previously, she had been fined twice for discrediting the Russian army and for displaying prohibited symbols, and after losing her job, she was arrested. The recent sentence sends her to a penal colony for a period of seven years.
