CMR and UNIFARM create a mechanism through which doctors can quickly report shortages of medicines needed for treating patients

The College of Physicians of Romania (CMR) and the National Company UNIFARM signed an agreement on Monday under which doctors will be able to quickly report risks concerning treatment interruptions, especially situations in which patients have a justified need for medicines unavailable in Romania.

Doctors will send reports to the CMR, including to the e-mail address - [email protected] -, and the college will forward them to UNIFARM. The company will check whether the medicine is available in stocks in Romania and whether the issue is one of domestic supply or a genuine shortage.

In the event of unavailability, UNIFARM will inform the National Agency for Medicines and the Ministry of Health and will use the legal procedures to ensure treatment. Solutions include Special Needs Authorizations, public health authorizations, and other mechanisms for placing medicines on the market.

CMR President Cătălina Poiană emphasized that treatment interruption can have serious consequences, and in oncology, time can mean life.

UNIFARM Director Adrian Marius Dobre warned that supply problems could worsen amid rising costs and logistical instability.
