The Chronic Patients’ Alliance of Romania is urging the authorities to urgently adopt the budgetary measures needed to fund the health-care system, warning that the lack of a budget revision could lead to treatment interruptions and limit patients’ access to essential medical services.

In an open letter sent on Wednesday to the president of Romania, Parliament, the interim government, the prime minister-designate and the leaders of parliamentary parties, the organization is calling for an immediate intervention plan with clear deadlines and responsibilities.

APCR President Cezar Irimia points out that insufficient funding affects both chronic patients, who depend on medication and regular tests, and medical staff, who are being forced to work without sufficient resources.

The organization stresses that treatments, medicines and medical tests cannot be made conditional on political disputes or administrative delays. Patient representatives say that warnings about funding shortages have already been issued by patients and doctors, and that the situation requires the authorities to take responsibility and act swiftly.

APCR calls for no patient to be deprived of the necessary care due to a lack of financial resources.
