On July 8, approximately 99% of the global population, or about 8.2 billion people, was simultaneously in daylight or twilight, around 11:10 GMT. At that moment, the most populated regions of the planet were illuminated by the sun, while only a small part of the population was in darkness.
According to calculations, approximately 6.9 billion people (83% of the world's population) were in full daylight, while the rest experienced different phases of twilight.
Although the phenomenon has been widely presented as specific to July 8, it is not unique. It occurs daily for about 60 days, from May 18 to July 17, due to the tilt of the Earth's axis and the distribution of the population globally.
