The Indian Ministry of Health has announced the approval of the Qdenga vaccine, manufactured by Takeda, for use in the domestic market. According to the World Health Organization, dengue fever affects half of the global population, with 100-400 million infections annually.
In India, over 1 million cases of dengue fever have been reported since 2021, including 1,500 deaths. The virus, transmitted by mosquitoes, causes severe symptoms, including fever, muscle pain, and, in rare cases, death. The authorized vaccine is recommended in two doses for individuals aged between 4 and 60 years and has already been approved by health agencies in about 40 countries.
Additionally, the Indian group Panacea Biotec has begun the final phase of clinical trials for a single-dose vaccine. Recently, Brazil suspended the use of another single-dose vaccine due to suspected deaths.
