The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that nearly 40% of cancer cases in 2022, equivalent to 7.1 million, could have been prevented.
The global study identified the main preventable causes, with tobacco responsible for 15% of cases, followed by infections (10%) and alcohol consumption (3%). Smoking remains the leading cause of cancer in men, while infections are more common in women.
