News Focus: Vladimir Putin - recent trends of online reflection in Romania

The war of aggression launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine has turned Vladimir Putin into a political actor whose actions or messages are constantly reflected in online sources, including in Romania. Using NewsVibe's automated media monitoring platform, we identify recent trends in online interest in the Kremlin leader, as well as the topics with which he has been most intensely associated.
Using real-time monitored data and AI-supported processing of the collected information, we observe that Putin is written about - in the relevant Romanian online sources - about as much as Ukrainian President Zelenski and US President Biden, while the volume of mentions of Donald Trump, former president and current presidential candidate, is significantly higher (by about 70%).Grafic NewsVibe. Note that in the last month, there have been nearly 1600 mentions of Vladimir Putin, surpassing an estimated impact of 75 million views, with the trend showing a recent upward trend amid the reflection of his visit to Mongolia

The top sources that mentioned Vladimir Putin the most are dominated by news websites. Of these, ziare.com, stiripesurse.ro, Digi24, Libertatea and HotNews stand out, with more than 50 mentions of the Russian president in the analyzed interval. These are also the media sources whose associated Facebook pages make the top.

Top keywords mentioned
The terms most often associated in online articles and Facebook posts with Vladimir Putin's name reflect the recurrence of the Ukrainian war theme and the most recent events in the conflict. Terms such as "Ukraine", "Ukrainians", as well as "Kiev", "Moscow" or "Kursk" stand out. It also stands out the frequent mention in the same contexts of the name of the President of Ukraine, but also of the USA and of some of the presidential candidates in the presidential elections in that country, such as Donald Trump. Last but not least, Vladimir Putin's visit to Mongolia at the very end of the analysis period is noteworthy.
