The Party of European Socialists (PES) and the Group of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament (S&D) are confident that the PSD will support a pro-European alternative in the May 18 presidential elections. In a statement, the PES and S&D underline their commitment against far-right nationalism and populism, reaffirming that they will not collaborate with these forces. PES President Stefan Löfven stressed the importance of democracy and European values, while S&D President Iratxe García underlined that aligning with the far-right is not an option. PSD did not declare its support for any of the final candidates, but party leaders backed Nicușor Dan's candidacy.
