The Ministry of Education has initiated a call for educational institutions that wish to participate in a pilot program aimed at implementing national assessment standards for primary and secondary education. These standards will describe the performance levels of students, categorized into three levels: basic, consolidated, and advanced. Bogdan Cristescu, the director of CNCE, suggests that, in about four years, grades from middle school could be considered again for high school admission.

The piloting of the standards will take place between March and June in selected schools, and teachers will be able to use these standards as a reference without being obliged to change their grading system. Although an immediate change in high school admission is not anticipated, it is estimated that, after the implementation of the standards, teacher assessments will be able to influence the educational path of students. Cristescu mentioned that classroom assessments will be externally validated and will contribute to a more balanced admission process, but will not completely replace national assessments.
