Before the announcement regarding a national study, Minister of Education and Research, Sorin Costreie, listed decentralization and reducing bureaucracy among the priorities of his mandate, saying that schools must be able to adapt better to the needs of communities and that teachers should be relieved of administrative tasks so they can focus on education. He also mentioned safety in schools, in the context of discussions held with students, teachers, parents, and university students.
Along the same lines of reducing bureaucracy, delegated minister for pre-university education, Sorin-Gabriel Ionescu, announced that discussions were under way on transferring responsibility for social scholarships to the Ministry of Labor, arguing that this could reduce administrative tasks in schools. The proposal was made based on the idea that the teaching planning document should remain the main document for teaching staff, while other administrative duties should be reassessed.
Subsequently, trade unions called for urgent legislative changes so that the assessment of social scholarship applications could be carried out by local authorities through social assistance departments, citing the time-consuming nature of teachers’ work and risks related to access to data through the ANAF platform. At the same time, proposals also emerged to reorganize the ministry, with Costreie supporting the separation of pre-university education from university education so that the two areas could be administered more efficiently.
