Minister of Education and Research Sorin Costreie announced Thursday that decentralization and deregulation will be the main directions of his mandate, which began a week ago. He says schools must be able to adapt better to the needs of their communities, while teachers should be relieved of administrative tasks so they can focus on education.
In a message posted on Facebook, the minister said that, in the current context, school safety is also a priority. Costreie said he had held his first meetings with representatives of students, pupils, teachers and parents, and that he wants the cooperation of all stakeholders in the system.
The minister called for greater investment in education and research, as well as a coherent and predictable system without sudden changes. Priorities include equity and access to education, with a particular focus on early education and the development of reflective thinking.
Sorin Costreie also said that teachers’ trust must be regained and that young people must be attracted to teaching careers. He stressed that solutions must be developed together with pupils, parents, teaching staff and student representatives.
