Starting in August, the prices of cigarettes in Bulgaria will increase by 13 euro cents per pack.

The Bulgarian government will implement a gradual increase in excise duties on tobacco products, starting in August 2026, according to forecasts from the Ministry of Finance.

The first adjustment will bring an increase of approximately 13 euro cents per pack of cigarettes, followed by two more increases of 12 euro cents each, scheduled for March 2027 and January 2028. This price increase will also affect Romanians, who have the habit of traveling to Bulgaria to buy cheaper cigarettes.

The increase in excise duties is part of a broader fiscal strategy aimed at increasing budget revenues, estimated to bring approximately 341 million euros to Bulgaria's budget by 2028. The current excise rate for 1,000 cigarettes will increase from 113.51 euros to 120 euros, which will significantly influence retail prices.
