The Bulgarian government announced on Friday a support package worth more than €300 million for households, farmers, transport operators and economic sectors affected by rising fuel prices. The measures were adopted to limit the impact of higher costs on the population and the economy.
The package includes a one-off payment of €50 for individuals and households with incomes below the poverty threshold, as well as the removal of the excise duty on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Drivers of petrol and diesel cars will not, however, receive direct subsidies or excise duty reductions.
Transport operators have already received €55 million in direct support. Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Alexander Pulev said the aid was necessary to maintain the competitiveness of Bulgarian companies on European markets and to prevent costs from being passed on to consumers. The government will continue to monitor prices and could adopt additional measures.
Agriculture will receive €170 million. One hundred million euros will be used to compensate for the difference in diesel prices between 2025 and 2026, amounting to support of approximately 44 cents per litre.
