The European Union is preparing for a prolonged energy crisis, according to statements from the European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jorgensen. He emphasized that energy prices will remain high for a long period, as a result of the chaos generated by the war in the Middle East, which has led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on infrastructure in the Gulf.

Jorgensen mentioned that member countries must ensure they have the necessary resources and that Brussels is analyzing the rationalization of fuels and the release of oil from emergency reserves. Additionally, the official discussed possible relaxations of regulations for aviation fuel and emphasized that, depending on the evolution of the situation, the EU will assess the necessary legislative tools.

Jorgensen confirmed that a new release of strategic energy reserves is a viable option, but it will be decided based on necessity. In this context, the EU will continue to rely on supplies from the US and other partners, without changing the legislation regarding natural gas imports from Russia.
