Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna announced that the emergency ordinance regarding the capping of the commercial markup on fuels aims to stop the increase in prices for a period of three weeks. He suggests introducing options to reduce VAT or excise duties on fuels, considering the inflationary impact of fuel prices on the economy and citizens. Barna emphasized the importance of further discussions to improve the ordinance, which should have immediate effects at the pump.
He also mentioned that fuel prices have been steadily increasing in Romania, and the measures taken by the Government cannot be long-term. The Deputy Prime Minister ruled out the rationing of fuel consumption, stating that there are sufficient resources on the market. He emphasized that it is essential to establish a state intervention price to stop the increases.
