The volume of construction works records a significant decline at the beginning of 2026

The volume of construction works recorded a drastic decrease in January 2026, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS).


Compared to December 2025, the decrease was 69% in raw series and 4.6% in seasonally adjusted series.



Maintenance and current repair works decreased by 70.7%, while new construction works decreased by 68.4%. In terms of construction objects, non-residential buildings recorded a decrease of 75.1%. Compared to January 2025, the volume of works decreased by 2.4% in raw series, with notable decreases in capital repair works (-5.2%) and new constructions (-3.3%). However, maintenance and current repair works increased by 3.8%.


Overall, the data suggest a downward trend in the construction sector, with the exception of specific segments that recorded increases.
