During a debate in the Chamber of Deputies, the Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, emphasized that Romania has adopted an aggressive decarbonization policy, committing to close coal-fired power plants by 2025, which has led to the loss of 7,000 megawatts of production capacity. This decision, combined with poor management of funding programs, has generated an energy deficit of 1,500 - 2,000 megawatts and has led to rising energy prices. Ivan proposed centralizing energy projects at the Ministry of Energy and announced legislative measures to transform production and energy transport objectives into national priorities. He also mentioned negotiations with the European Commission to postpone the closure of coal-fired power plants, thus avoiding financial penalties. Despite criticism from the opposition, the simple motion against him was rejected, and Ivan emphasized the need for collaboration between parties to address Romania's energy issues.
