Romania is not facing issues with natural gas supply, assures Ion Sterian, the general director of Transgaz. Internal resources and storage, which still have one third of their capacity, are sufficient to meet the current consumption of the population and industry. Gas consumption has dropped below 40 million cubic meters per day, and storage plays a crucial role in ensuring the necessary supply. Even under low temperature conditions, Romania could cope with the cold season due to its production capacity and existing reserves.
Additionally, Romania is the largest gas producer in the European Union, and the Neptun Deep project will double domestic production. Ion Sterian emphasized that the transit of gas through the Vertical Corridor is not affected by tensions in the Middle East, although prices have risen in European markets. The Vertical Corridor, initiated by Romania, contributes to diversifying supply sources and reducing dependence on Russian gas, having a transport capacity that will significantly expand in the future.
