The Romanian government welcomed the successful completion of the transaction through which the National Company Maritime Ports Administration SA Constanța acquired the operator of the Giurgiulești International Port, ICS Danube Logistics, from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
This investment aims to strengthen the strategic role of the Port of Constanța in the Black Sea region, transforming it into a regional hub for interconnecting the European Union with neighboring regions. By taking over the Giurgiulești Port, Romania commits to developing its infrastructure and capacity, considering the new geopolitical context.
The port, located at the mouths of the Danube, is essential for managing the imports and exports of the Republic of Moldova. The transaction will strengthen economic relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova and will contribute to ensuring supply chains for various goods. Additionally, the port will play an important role in the future reconstruction of Ukraine.
The Romanian state owns 80% of the Port of Constanța, and it was recently decided to increase its share capital.
