At the end of 2025, the net assets managed by the Pillar II pension funds reached a historic record of 201.6 billion lei, an increase of over 33% compared to 2024. This performance was supported by the appreciation of companies on the Bucharest Stock Exchange and the favorable evolution of government bonds.

Approximately 8.4 million Romanians are enrolled in this system, and 4.6 million contribute monthly with 4.75% of their gross income. The Pillar II funds constitute the second most important financial asset of the population, representing 10.5% of Romania's GDP. Since its launch, Pillar II has achieved an average annual return of 8.3%. In 2025, payments of 2.65 billion lei were made to 88,000 beneficiaries, and payments are made upon retirement, disability, or death. Beneficiaries have the option of a lump-sum payment or monthly payments over a period of up to five years.
