At the end of 2025, the net assets managed by the Pillar II pension funds reached a historic record of 201.6 billion lei, an increase of over 33% compared to 2024. Approximately 8.4 million Romanians are enrolled in this system, and 4.6 million contribute monthly with 4.75% of their gross income. The Pillar II funds constitute the second most important financial asset of the population, representing 10.5% of Romania's GDP. Since its launch, Pillar II has achieved an average annual return of 8.3%. In 2025, payments of 2.65 billion lei were made to 88,000 beneficiaries, and payments are made upon retirement, disability, or death.
