Pillar II participants can transfer their savings free of charge to another privately managed pension fund if they notice significant performance differences. ASF data for the first six months of 2026 shows that the market’s positive trend continued, but returns are not identical, and periods of decline or growth below inflation remain possible.
The system has approximately 8.5 million participants and seven funds. The current contribution rate is 4.75% of gross salary. Eligible employees can choose a fund, while those who do not are assigned one at random. Administrators must annually send information about contributions and accumulated assets.
The transfer involves signing the enrollment agreement with the new fund and notifying the current administrator using the form provided in the ASF regulations. The amounts are converted into units of the new fund, and the participant subsequently receives confirmation by mail.
On October 9, 2026, the Aripi fund, managed by Generali, had the highest net asset value per unit (NAV), at 49.33 lei, followed by Metropolitan Life and NN. Pensia Noastră, managed by BT Pensii, had 38.28 lei. For 2,000 units, the difference between the best-performing and the weakest fund reached nearly 30,000 lei. However, past performance does not guarantee future gains.
