Nissan, as part of a restructuring plan, is considering closing its plant in Oppama, Yokosuka, as part of a 15% reduction in its workforce and the closure of seven of 17 global factories. However, allowing Foxconn to produce electric vehicles at the plant could prevent the closure, protecting its 3,900 employees and suppliers. Nissan said the press reports are not official, and the talks with Foxconn were originally reported by Nikkei.
