Oliver Blume, the CEO of Volkswagen, stated that in the theoretical scenario where labor costs remain constant, the company could be forced to lay off approximately 50,000 employees globally. This estimate is based on cost comparisons and does not represent a final decision, with Blume emphasizing that Volkswagen is evaluating all brands and subsidiaries to determine the necessary adjustments.

The company is facing pressures due to weak demand in Europe, increased costs from U.S. tariffs, and the costly transition to electric vehicles. According to some sources, layoffs could reach up to 100,000 employees, and four factories in Germany could be closed by 2034.

Despite these challenges, Volkswagen will continue to invest in electric vehicles and software solutions, while maintaining the competitiveness of combustion engine vehicles.

Sales have decreased, especially in the Chinese market, and the group intends to reduce its model range by half.
