The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, had a meeting on Tuesday with Valdis Dombrovskis, the European Commissioner for Economy, at the Cotroceni Palace. The discussions focused on economic and financial issues, particularly on Romania's fiscal-budgetary situation. Nicușor Dan emphasized the country's commitment to continue the process of fiscal consolidation and to correct economic imbalances, highlighting the importance of stability and predictability for the economy.
He also appreciated the constructive dialogue with the European Commission in addressing fiscal challenges. In the context of reviewing the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the president reaffirmed Romania's determination to effectively implement the updated version by August next year. Valdis Dombrovskis also discussed with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, warning about the unsustainable budget deficit of 9.3% of GDP, the highest in the EU, and called for measures to reach the target of 8.4% by the end of the year. Bolojan confirmed Romania's commitment to reduce the deficit to 6% by 2026.
