The European Commissioner for Economy, Valdis Dombrovskis, who is on an official visit to Bucharest, sent a clear message to the Romanian authorities: Romania must urgently correct its fiscal deviations, considering the considerable budget deficit of over 9% of GDP. Dombrovskis emphasized the importance of bringing taxation back on a normal path and welcomed the recent measures adopted by the Government, but warned that fiscal adjustments must continue to avoid major economic risks. Additionally, the European official expressed optimism regarding Romania's economic evolution, anticipating continued economic growth, but stressed that it is essential for the Government to remain on the path of fiscal adjustment. During the visit, Dombrovskis inspected projects financed through the PNRR and will have meetings with Romanian officials, including the president and the prime minister. A joint press conference is scheduled for Tuesday at the Victoria Palace.
