BCR chief economist Ciprian Dascălu expects the NBR to keep interest rates unchanged following the VAT and excise tax hikes, which have increased consumer price uncertainty. Inflation has exceeded previous estimates, with BCR forecasting 7.5% inflation at the end of the year. Fiscal adjustments will reduce the trade deficit, but interest rate cuts are not expected until 2026. Against this backdrop, savings protection strategies are essential to maintain purchasing power.
