The German group Lufthansa announced that it has submitted a non-binding offer for a minority stake in TAP, the main airline operator in Portugal, managed by the holding company Parpublica. The privatization of TAP was relaunched in July 2025, after several delays, with the aim of selling a 44.9% stake to an airline that will help increase the global competitiveness of the Portuguese carrier. An additional 5% package will be offered to TAP employees. Lufthansa submitted the offer after the Air France-KLM group expressed interest, and IAG, the owner of British Airways, also had a similar initiative. Non-binding offers must include the suggested price and a strategic plan. Analysts estimate that the 44.9% stake is worth at least 700 million euros. TAP, with a fleet of 102 aircraft, is valued for its routes to Brazil, Africa, the USA, and Canada. Parpublica will prepare a report for the Government within 30 days, and the privatization could be completed in the second half of 2026.
