The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, stated that he warned the Government about the necessity of increasing the minimum wage in 2026, warning that Romania risks entering an infringement zone if it does not comply with European commitments. Grindeanu discussed with European Commissioner Roxana Mănzatu to obtain relevant information for future decisions.

Despite the divergent positions within the governing Coalition, where UDMR stated that there will be no increases in income next year, social democrats believe that freezing wages would be a mistake. Additionally, USR expressed that freezing the minimum wage would be beneficial, even suggesting a reduction in taxation on the minimum wage to support citizens. This discussion arises in a tense economic context, with rising energy prices.
