Great Wall Motors (GWM) intends to open a vehicle manufacturing plant in Europe by 2029, aiming for a capacity of 300,000 cars per year. Although it has not yet chosen the country in which it will build the factory, GWM has taken initial steps in Romania, where it has established a unit in Timișoara for the production of auto components. The company has invested 3 million euros in this unit, which will focus on manufacturing electrical equipment and aluminum components.

GWM has so far avoided certain European countries, such as Germany, due to high costs, preferring locations like Turkey and Hungary. Romania, with recent improvements in infrastructure, could become a viable option for GWM. The company has also announced plans to launch seven new models in Europe starting in 2026, including an SUV called Ora 5. GWM continues to maintain a diversified portfolio, including combustion engines, despite industry electrification trends.
