The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, stated that increasing the minimum wage is not appropriate in the current context of the competitiveness of the Romanian economy. Discussions on this topic continue within the coalition, but Nazare believes that the minimum wage cannot be increased at present. He emphasized that, although the minimum wage has been steadily increased, the pressure on small companies is significant, especially in the current fiscal context. According to official calculations, the minimum wage could reach values between 4,325 and 4,778 lei, but SMEs Romania proposes freezing it at 4,050 lei for the next year. Additionally, the interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, mentioned the risks associated with freezing the minimum wage. Meanwhile, major trade union confederations are planning a protest on October 29 to demand a decent minimum wage.
