The Federation of Utility Companies in Energy (ACUE) warns that unpredictable regulations and administrative interventions in the energy sector can perpetuate existing imbalances and affect the functioning of the market. Suppliers emphasize that Romania has a limited number of producers, which places the market in a seller's structure, thus influencing prices. Approximately 50% of consumers' bills come from the cost of purchasing electricity and natural gas. ACUE believes that the role of the state should be that of a guarantor and arbitrator, not an intervener in price formation.
Suppliers have pre-financed the capping and compensation schemes for four years, and the state's arrears to them amount to 10 billion lei. Additionally, Romania remains a net importer of energy, and sustainable solutions do not consist of administrative interventions, but in increasing internal capacities. Experts warn that extending the gas price capping scheme will distort competition and generate significant increases in bills in 2026.
