Hidroelectrica will increase the energy price for household customers whose contracts expire, with the new conditions to apply from October 2026. The price of active energy will rise from 0.45 to 0.515 lei/kWh, representing an increase of approximately 14.4%. Depending on the distribution area, the final billed price is expected to increase by around 7%, from approximately 1.11–1.19 lei/kWh to 1.19–1.27 lei/kWh.

The Intelligent Energy Association warns that the increase will place additional pressure on households. For a monthly consumption of 100 kWh, the bill could increase by approximately 8 lei, while for 200 kWh, it could rise by around 16 lei. Specialists recommend that customers not automatically accept the new conditions, but compare the offers available on the market.

In the summer of 2026, suppliers such as Nova Power & Gas offered, during certain periods and in certain regions, final tariffs ranging from 0.99 to 1.20 lei/kWh. However, the differences depend on the duration of the promotions and the contractual conditions.

Hidroelectrica justifies the adjustment by citing lower hydro production, reduced water flows, the need to purchase energy from the market, and the approaching cold season. The company reported revenues of approximately 6 billion lei and a net profit of 2.57 billion lei in the first half of 2026.
