Energy Minister Dumitru Chisăliță estimates that electricity bills could increase by between 10% and 22% in the coming period compared with the same period last year. He made the statement in an interview with Digi24 broadcast on Saturday.
The minister based his estimate on offers published by suppliers on the platform of the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE). These offers could become the actual prices in individual consumer contracts, although the increase varies depending on the supplier and the contractual terms.
In the case of natural gas, household consumers should not pay more than last year as long as the current price-capping mechanism remains in force. According to the minister, legislation sets an administered price through March 31, 2027, for gas produced in Romania and delivered to suppliers.
The situation is different for non-household consumers. Gas prices have risen significantly, and companies without fixed-term contracts or with contracts linked to daily quotations could face increases of more than 20%. The day-ahead price has doubled compared with the same period last year, the minister added.
