The Kremlin does not rule out resuming trilateral negotiations on resolving the conflict in Ukraine

Trilateral negotiations between Russia, Ukraine and the United States to resolve the conflict could resume in October, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday. Moscow does not rule out this possibility, but says there is still no concrete agreement on which to base the talks.

President Vladimir Putin’s chief foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, said that no negotiating “package” had been agreed. According to him, one of the central issues is the territorial question, but other matters are also on the agenda.

Diplomatic efforts mediated by the United States were interrupted amid the outbreak of the war in the Middle East, but resumed after U.S. envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff visited Moscow and Kyiv. Kushner said he hoped the next steps could be announced in the coming weeks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously said that negotiations could resume in September and that he was prepared to meet with Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin, however, rejected the idea of a meeting outside Moscow. Previous rounds resulted only in exchanges of prisoners and bodies, while the dispute over territories partially occupied by Russia remains the main obstacle.
