CEC Bank is co-financing the construction of an oilseed processing plant in the locality of Mihai Viteazu, Cluj County, an investment of approximately €45 million developed by the Podișul Transilvaniei Agricultural Cooperative. The project is intended to increase local seed-processing capacity and reduce Romania’s dependence on imports of refined oil and protein meals.
The new plant will be able to process 600 tonnes of seeds per day and will cover 8.5 hectares. The facility will include six silos, storage areas for meals and tanks, as well as a 1.65 MW agrivoltaic installation equipped with energy-storage systems.
The investment is being carried out by a cooperative made up of 21 farmers from the counties of Cluj, Alba and Mureș. Funding combines European funds, contributions from the cooperative’s members and a loan provided by CEC Bank, the project’s main banking partner.
Work is already under way, and the plant is expected to become operational by the end of 2027. The project aims to retain added value in the Romanian economy in a sector where the country exports large quantities of seeds and imports processed products.
