Craiova is taking a significant step in modernizing the heating system by building a cogeneration plant, with an investment of 235 million euros. The contract was signed on Monday by Mayor Lia Olguța Vasilescu and the management of the Electrica Group.

The new plant will have an installed electric power of approximately 82 megawatts and will gradually replace coal-based heat production, thus contributing to pollution reduction. The project will be carried out in two phases: the first, scheduled for next year, will involve the installation of hot water boilers, and the second, in two years, will include the commissioning of the cogeneration engines.

This investment comes in response to the problems encountered this winter by Electrocentrale Craiova, which left the city without heating. The contract with Electrocentrale Craiova will be terminated after the installation of the boilers, estimated for the first half of next year.
