Carrefour, the largest retailer in Europe, has begun discussions for the sale of its operations in Central and Eastern Europe, including Romania, where it entered in 2001. This decision comes in the context of a strategy to withdraw from the markets in Argentina and Poland, and is being conducted discreetly, involving both large retailers and investment funds. The French giant, with annual sales of over 85 billion euros, is looking to adapt to changes in consumer behavior and store formats. In July, Carrefour announced the sale of its operations in Italy, a move aimed at improving profitability. Currently, Carrefour Romania operates over 450 stores in 113 cities.
